此剧据朱晓平同名小说及其他桑树坪系列小说改编,编剧陈子度、杨健、朱晓平,导演徐晓钟、陈子度,舞美设计刘元声、慕百锁、霍起弟、卢一,中央戏剧学院表演系86届干修班演出。剧中人物贯串,共分三章,含四个故事。第一个故事可以名之为“麦客榆娃与小寡妇彩芳之恋”;第二个故事不妨就用原小说之名《福林和他的婆姨》;第三部分含两个小故事:“杀人嫌疑犯王志科的遭遇”和“耕牛豁子之死”。
