因材施教是学校教育教学必须遵循的一项基本原则,实施素质教育必然要求因材施教。叙永县天池中学是一所地处国家级贫困县的普通农村初中,在推进素质教育的过程中,紧密结合“普九”后入学的学生个体之间自然差异极其突出的特点,遵循因材施教的原则,开展了以“分层编班,分别要求、分类指导、分层教学”为基本内容的“分层教育”课题研究。自1996年春期开始,经过近几年的精心组织和务实工作,该课题已取得了初步成果,不仅稳定了生源,提高了质量,而且促进了特长生培养、推动了教师队伍建设,学校素质教育办学模式基本形成。
