The World Asthma Day is a commemorative event launched by the World Health Organization to increase awareness of the current state of asthma and enhance the prevention and management of the disease in both patients and the general public. On December 11, 1998, WHO convened the World Asthma Conference in Barcelona, Spain. On behalf of WHO, the European Respiratory Society and other agencies organized the first World Asthma Day on the theme “Helping our children breathe” on behalf of WHO. The World Asthma Conference also decided that the World Asthma Day Commemoration will be held on the second week of May of each year from the year 2000 onwards to make people aware that asthma is a global health issue and that the scientific and technological progress that has been made is publicized And to involve the public and relevant authorities in the implementation of effective management methods. Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that has a complicated underlying cause and no cure at present. This disease can occur at any age, but in children. According to statistics, the total number of asthma patients in the world has exceeded 150 million at present, and the prevalence has been increasing year by year. More than 100,000 people die from this disease each year. The incidence of this disease in industrialized developed countries has been high, with the incidence in the United States, Britain, Australia and New Zealand as high as 10% -30%. Asthma has now become the second largest respiratory disease in China, with the incidence of children and the elderly being 2% -3%. To effectively prevent and cure asthma, China has established more than 100 Asthma Clubs and Asthma Homes in 50 cities.
