From November 2004 to January 2005, the Information Department of the British “Economist” magazine interviewed 214 top Chinese executives through telephone and online questionnaires and completed the “China 2010 Business Outlook” white paper. This white paper is part of the Global Survey 2010 Business Outlook conducted by The Economist Intelligence Unit. In this global survey, 4018 executives in 23 countries were surveyed and SAP sponsored the survey. It can be seen from the survey results that managers in China expect IT to be an important tool in the development of enterprises. Managers in China are more confident that technology solutions will play a major role in helping to improve business than their counterparts elsewhere. Nearly two-thirds of Chinese respondents believe there is a greater advantage of using IT as a competitive tool than a motivating factor for improving cost-effectiveness. This is 62% higher than the average for the Asia-Pacific region, far exceeding 55% in Europe and 51% in the United States. This is the most common view among government agencies, state-owned enterprises, and private-owned companies. Retail managers have a strong belief that IT will bring them great advantages.
