A 305 mm wide by 914 mm long cast aluminum strip with a thickness of 12.2 mm was placed in a nitrogen furnace and rapidly heated to the desired temperature for 10-40 hours at a recrystallization temperature of 590-610 ° C. The strip is then removed from the furnace and the compressed air is blown cold on the strip and cooled to room temperature. Homogenization conditions used in this series of operations are summarized in Table 4. The cooled strip is reduced in thickness by 66% to 75% through multiple pass rolling with a thickness of 4.06 to 3.05 mm.
