陈寅恪1930年代为清华大学入学考试国文类命题,曾因所谓对子试题引起一时轩然大波,他本人的自我辩护词作为致清华国文系主任刘文典的信久已闻名于世。近年傅斯年遗稿的整理者在史语所档案中发现相似内容的信件,已经公布并得到很好的研究。本文将此公案置于近现代教育史的范围加以考察,冀以揭橥陈寅恪貌似保守、怪僻的中国语文观深层潜藏的人文主义教育理想的背景。对该件书信的文字校读表明,迄今为止的诸版本尚有可商之处,就中对借自摩尼教的术语“语藏”一词正解的求得,将有助于认识陈寅恪早年对国际东方学新材料和研究新动向的了解。本文附录胪举陈氏著作中出现的一些外译汉现象,藉此展开对陈氏特定术语的探讨。
Chen Yinke was the national language class proposition of Tsinghua University entrance examination in the 1930s, which caused a temporary uproar when it came to the so-called sub-examination. His own self-defense as the letter to Liu Wendian, director of Tsinghua Chinese Literature Department, has long been known throughout the world. In recent years, the finder of the Year of the Fuzian letters found similar in the archives of the historian have been published and well researched. This article puts the case in the modern history of education and examines it in order to reveal the background of the hidden ideal of humanism in Chen Yin-Ke’s seemingly conservative and eccentric Chinese language concept. The textual reading of the correspondence in that letter indicates that there is still room for discussion of the versions so far, and that understanding of the positive solution to the term borrowed from Manichaeism, Chen Yinque early years on the International Oriental New Materials and new understanding of the study. This appendix cites some of the phenomena of foreign translators in Chen’s writings in order to explore the specific terms of Chen’s.
