In recent years, South Korea’s economic take-off has attracted worldwide attention and is known as one of the “Four Little Asian Tigers.” In 1960, the per capita GNP of South Korea was only 86 U.S. dollars. By 1990, its GNP was as high as 238 billion U.S. dollars, with a per capita income of 5,561 U.S. dollars. In 1991, South Korea’s exports amounted to 81.5 billion U.S. dollars, ranking the 11th in world trade. So what is the secret of its economic take-off? One of the most important things is that it attaches great importance to and develops education, adheres to the strategy of “prioritizing people and resources” and takes the road of education and prosperity.
