In 1986, a pair of young brothers from southern Italy, Ennio and Carlo Capasa, founded a new fashion house, Costume National, long after working in Milan. In just a few years, the apparel brand quickly became one of the most famous brands in the colorful Italian fashion world. Costume National shares the same spirit of natural existentialism as other established brands, which are deeply rooted in the blood of the two founders. But again, Costume National is influenced by non-Italian traditions. Therefore, its image is very difficult to be associated with the traditional national customs. Many people do not know that the Capasa brothers are from Lecce (located on the southeastern coast of Italy), a name that is easily reminiscent of what might have originated in Japan, such as the commes des Garcons brand founded by Rei Kawakubo. This conclusion is valid: Ennio Capasa has worked with Yohji Ya-mamoto in Tokyo for many years and has a clear Japanese style in his work. However, Costume National's clothing does not converge with Japan, in the style of clothing has its own uniqueness. Unlike the style set by Yohji Yamamoto, Capasa's design is closely linked with the traditional Italian tailoring industry, which does not constrain the development of the brand but enhances its own quality.
