The United States Army’s Electronic Warfare, Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Interception (EW / RSTA) Bureau of Planning is about to begin development of a new EW jammer that appears to be unique in any of the three services. The so-called state of the art radar jammer (ATRJ) may be a modular device that will replace the helicopter jammer currently used on the U.S. Army helicopters to protect itself from radar-guided weapons, namely the ALQ-162 Wave noise jammers and ALQ-136 pulse deception jammers. The new ATRJ will utilize advanced technology to combine the capabilities of the two jammers described above into one small, lightweight device to counter the effects of pulsed Doppler radar, continuous wave radar, airborne and ground-based pulse radar
