Recently, several countries around the Pacific have unanimously agreed to halve the juvenile tuna fishing quotas in the North Pacific region and hope to double their bluefin tuna reserves in the North Pacific after 10 years. This decision was decided by the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) at the four-day subcommittee held in Fukuoka, a southwestern Japanese city. According to the MSN news, since 2013, an independent international assessment body has pointed out that Japan’s protectionist policies have become even more radical when the number of bluefin tuna in the North Pacific has dropped 96% from the initial level. The world’s largest consumer of tuna - South Korea, the United States, Canada, Taiwan and Japan, took part in the meeting in the hope that this operation could help to protect this endangered state
