一我初进台大外文系(一九五七年)时,茅塞未开,除了在中学时对文史方面成绩不错外,真正有兴趣的是音乐和电影,前者是家学渊源,后者则是集多年来在新竹看电影的“课外活动”经验(部分“成果”已经写成一本书:《我的观影自传》)。对于外文,除了英语底子打得不错外,其实对西洋文学一窍不通,在高中时仅读过几本通俗小说——如《基督山伯爵》、《三剑客》——的中译本而已,还有一本《希腊神话》,从中发现奥菲斯(Orpheus,我的外文原名)原来是一位音乐神,而且是一个悲剧人物。
As soon as I first entered the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, NTU (1957), Mae Sit did not open. In addition to performing well in history and culture, I was really interested in music and film. The former was a source of family learning while the latter Is a “Extracurricular Activities” experience (part of “Achievements” has been written as a book entitled “My Observer Autobiography”), which has been playing movies in Hsinchu for many years. For foreign languages, in addition to playing a good foundation in English, in fact, know nothing of Western literature, in high school read only a few popular novels - such as “Monte Cristo”, “Three Musketeers,” the Chinese version of it, there is a “Greek mythology,” from which it was discovered that Orpheus (my original name in English) turned out to be a musical god and a tragic figure.
