Objective To investigate the application of peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC) and peripheral venous catheter in very low birth weight children. Methods Ninety children with very low birth weight who were admitted to our hospital were randomly divided into two groups. The control group of children given short peripheral venous catheter, the observation group to PICC, the two groups were compared. Results The growth of body weight in the control group was lower than that of the observation group at the second week and the fourth week after treatment, and the length of stay in the control group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P <0.05). In the control group, the catheter-related complications The incidence was significantly higher than the observation group, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). Conclusion PICC catheter can effectively promote the growth of very low birth weight infant body weight and reduce the incidence of catheter-related complications, worthy of clinical promotion.
