自我国改革开放及加入世界贸易组织以后,翻译者在经贸领域的对外宣传工作中面临着如何将汉语的经贸新词语准确地译为英语、成功完成对外宣传任务的挑战。本文通过介绍奈达的功能对等理论,即在原语和目的语之间实现“最贴近的自然对等”的翻译原则以及经贸新词语的语言特色、语言的三个主要功能——传递信息、说服和表达等,探讨汉语经贸新词语和英语译文之间达到“功能对等”的必要性和可能性,并且推荐了几种此类翻译的基本方法。
Since the reform and opening up of our country and accession to the World Trade Organization, translators have faced the challenge of translating the new Chinese economic and trade terms into English correctly in the external propaganda work in the field of economy and trade, and successfully completing the task of publicizing foreign affairs. This paper introduces Nida’s theory of functional equivalence, that is, the translation principle of “closest natural equivalence” between the original language and the target language as well as the language features of the new economic and trade words and the three main functions of language - Information, persuasion and expression to explore the necessity and possibility of reaching “functional equivalence” between new Chinese terms and English translations and recommending several basic methods of such translation.
