Electrostatic gravitation plays an important role in the adsorption of antigens by aluminum-containing adjuvants. The zwitterionic adjuvant has an isoelectric point of about 11, is positively charged at pH 7.4 under physiological conditions and is a good adsorbent for negatively charged antigens, but not for basic proteins.
