Specific CD8 + T cells control replication of the virus in persistent infections such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), and hepatitis C virus (HCV). The differentiation of CD8 ~ + T cells in human is not clear, but the results of T cell activation and differentiation in mouse infection model are inconsistent with the results of human studies. In this paper, we preliminarily speculate the differentiation pattern of CD8 ~ + T cells according to the differentiation phenotypes of CD8 ~ + T cells in persistent infection of different viruses and question the current classification of CD8 + T effector cells and memory cells.
