[Objective] To study the effects of Toxoplasma gondii on the five trace elements (Fe2 +, Cu2 +, Zn2 +, Ca2 +, Mg2 +) in liver, spleen and brain in rats. [Methods] 20 rats were randomly divided into normal group and infection group. Each rat was injected intraperitoneally with 2 ml of physiological saline solution containing 15.5 × 10 6 Toxoplasma gondii tachyzoites, and the rats in two groups were sacrificed after 64 days. Liver, spleen and brain tissues were harvested and examined by atomic absorption spectrophotometer Determination of its trace elements changes. [Results] Compared with normal group, the content of Fe2 + in liver tissue of infected group was significantly increased (P <0.01), the content of Cu2 + was significantly decreased (P <0 05), while the contents of Zn2 +, Ca2 + and Mg2 + (P <0.01), the increase of Mg2 + (P <0.01), the difference of Zn2 + and Ca2 + in the infected group was not significant. In the infected group, the content of Fe2 + and Cu2 + Fe2 +, Cu2 +, Mg2 + content decreased significantly (P <0.01), Ca2 + increased (P <0 0 2), Zn2 + did not change significantly. [Conclusion] Toxoplasma gondii infection can cause changes of trace elements in liver, spleen and brain of rats
