近一个世纪以来,伴随中国传统水墨语言发展历程,中国画如何突破传统,一直存在着许多争论形式。水墨人物画是中国画系统中的一个重要组成部分,画家们在继承传的基础上对水墨人物画的绘画语言和表现手法的探索也是多元的:有人将写实性融进写意人物画;有人将色彩语言大量引入水墨之中;在此方面的种种探索,无论结果如何,都是十分可贵的,至少为我们提供了更多的思路。而现代水墨人物画致力于当代社会基础上对传统笔墨语言进行新探索。这种新探索是对传统中国画的内容与形式、笔墨语言、视觉图式的拓展,使得现代水墨人物画在中国画的进程中起到一定积极作用。现代水墨人物画在当下中国画转型中独树一帜,它代表了当代中国画发展的一个新方向。
