近十年来在中国海特别是沿岸带,有害浮游植物发生的赤潮已有报导。浮游植物水华对环境产生的不良影响,对渔业和水产养殖业所造成的经济损失和破坏,甚至对人类健康的危害,在世界许多区域也已有报导。在中国,由于海洋环境跨越三个气候带(温带、亚热带和热带),几乎整个沿岸带都受着强烈的人类活动和开发的影响,由此引起污染和富营养化日趋严重,许多浮游植物种类成为赤潮发生的潜在种类。为了了解、预测、最终控制这些有害于渔业和水产养殖业发展和质量的有毒藻类的发生,需要有关海洋环境特征和水华的信息资料。
