Figure 1 shows several major structural forms of the upper hydraulic cylinder forging presses designed by the Ludwig von Roll Metallurgical Plant. The hydraulic cylinder (Figure 1a) is mounted in the upper cross member from below and secured with a compression ring. Figure 1b is a hydraulic cylinder. In order to reduce the risk of fire, the plungers are fastened to the press beam instead of the cylinder from below. The oil enters the cavity of the cylinder through the hole in the middle of the plunger. If the seal is ruptured, the oil will not flow downward, but in the worst case flows into the groove between the seal hold-down ring and the cylinder; as the pressure drops, the oil flows down the collector into the sump. Normally, this does not happen because of the oil flowing out
