It is difficult to reduce the moisture content of fine coal (-0.589 mm) to 20% or below using conventional vacuum dewatering techniques. High-pressure filtration technology provides a viable approach for obtaining fine-grained coal with low moisture content. This article describes two new methods used in the filter press process that use both of these methods to make the moisture content of fine coal cleaner lower than with conventional filter press technology. These two methods are (a) fractional dehydration, (b) addition of pulp to the coal slurry. The Pittsburgh 8 coal slurry with 0.038mm mesh grading dehydration, get 12.9% moisture content of the filter cake, without grading treatment, cake moisture up to 24.9%. Add coal slurry to the pulp, the filter cake can be reduced to about 17% moisture.
