Recalling the information obtained from adjuvant antigen vaccines against P. falciparum in different host-Plasmodium systems. Based on these data, issues relating to the development and testing of anti-malarial vaccines were considered. The requirements for the induced immune adjuvant and the type of adjuvant required depend largely on the host. Because of the lack of knowledge of human immune responses to malaria vaccines, it is not yet known which animal infections are most likely to be reliable models of human malaria, although monkeys are generally assumed to be the most suitable analogs. Careful study of the immune response of monkeys to purified malaria antigens is therefore necessary to develop vaccines for use in human trials.
