Light and shadow are the blood and soul of oil painting and Chinese painting. The two seemingly totally different ways of expression do not coincide with the pursuit of formal beauty. Oil painting and Chinese painting conceived and developed in different national cultures, forming different painting styles and aesthetic tastes. The strength of painting light and shadow control the brightness and darkness of the screen size and color comparison. Chinese painting pays more attention to creating the beauty of form by dividing the picture by using the blank. Both of these ways fully reflect the differences between Chinese and Western cultures. This article focuses on the similarities and differences between the light and shade of oil painting and the beauty of the Chinese painting in forming the beauty of the screen through the composition, the shaping of the main body image, the humanistic thought, the atmosphere of the painting and the communication of personal feelings. Then the common characteristics and differences of the two kinds of ideology are analyzed.
