我们现在常说的“新希腊电影”一词,最早由影评人福提斯·阿莱斯鲁使用,它有三个不同于主流商业电影的特点:一,在主题上,这类影片关心当代希腊现实,抑或国家近代政治压抑和冲突的历史;二,在美学上,由于军人独裁的七年里希腊政治纷乱,美国施加的影响逐渐增长,一般主流电影重说故事,而新希腊电影则长于呈现欧洲艺术电影的人文精神,形式上深受战斗电影与实验电影的影响;三,这类影片大都出自于电影人自发的创作热忱,采用独立制片的拍摄方式。
