Based on the 2006 CGSS data, this study analyzes the living patterns of elderly parents, their current status in support of children’s support in material, daily care and psychological aspects, and their relationship. The study found that although empty-nest families (one-person households or couples with two households) have gradually become the mainstream of the family structure of the elderly, the overwhelming majority of the elderly live close to their children and maintain close ties with their children. In addition to housework, there is no significant relationship between children’s living distance and the frequency of their parents’ support. There is also no obvious relationship between the parents’ living patterns and their parents’ frequency of support. For those who do not live with their parents For children, their frequency of support for their parents is not reduced by sharing their parents with other children, nor is it increased by their father’s or mother’s independence.
