In order to reduce its dependence on imported raw materials, Romania’s economic and social development plan this year stipulates that recycling of waste materials will be stepped up to meet the national economy’s demand for raw materials. Romania plans to recycle scrap steel this year, equivalent to five times the annual iron ore production in the country. Copper will be equivalent to one year of copper production, with lead and zinc equivalent to 1/3 to 1/4 of the annual production respectively.
