Rivers are a natural source of many natural weathering products and human activities that produce the main passage of land into the ocean. Due to differences in geographical conditions and population distribution, there are bound to be significant differences between the types and quantities of substances carried into the sea by rivers. Therefore, changes in conditions must be taken into account when applying the method of measuring the flux of a substance carried by a river to other rivers or from several rivers in order to estimate global fluxes into the sea.
