At the beginning of the founding of New China, democratic Germany adhered to one nation’s stand and actively strived for the unification of the country and the nation. However, with the changes in the situation at home and abroad, the unifying Socialist party and government continued to retreat from the standpoint of national unification and eventually put forward the “two nations” theory and the policy of national separatism in the 1970s. The adjustment of national unification policy not only failed to guarantee the long-term stability of democratic Germany, but also led to the loss of democratic Germany’s dominance over ethnic issues. This is also an important factor in the demise of democratic Germany.
