国家海洋局“向阳红16”调查船于1983年5月至7月对中太平洋北部进行了锰结核调查,以期了解太平洋锰结核资源的分布情况及寻找富矿区,取得研究锰结核形成机制和富集规律的第一手资料,同时开展调查区沉积物物源、分布规律、沉积物类型、沉积速率以及沉积物与锰结核的关系的研究.本文系统分析了这次锰结核调查时所采集的表层和柱状样品,除少数几个外,所有样品均见到丰富的硅藻化石,为该区第四系地层的划分及其古气候、古地理研究提供了依据.
