关汉卿、马致远、白朴、郑光祖是明人最为推崇的元杂剧作家,不过,明人对他们的喜好程度并不一样。从明代的元曲选集、戏曲选集、曲谱、曲评等著作对“元曲四大家”杂剧的收辑及评论情况来看,关汉卿的作品虽然最具舞台生命力,可因为他本人及其作品所体现出来的鲜明的市井气息和明代逐渐雅化的戏曲创作风尚格格不入,导致明代文人对他的作品并不喜欢;相反,马、白、郑三人因其身上的士大夫气质以及作品题材的“文人化”、曲辞的“文雅化”而颇得明代文人的青睐。
