Right ventricular systolic function (RVF) is a predictor of the prognosis of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Whether the trend in RVF over time is a better predictor of DCM progression is unclear. To investigate the effect of right ventricular systolic function on the prognosis of DCM in large population-based studies, the investigators enrolled 512 DCM patients [aged 46 years (range, 36-55) and left ventricular systolic scale, 32%, from 1993 to 2008 25% ~ 41%)], up to 72 months of follow-up. Right ventricular systolic dysfunction is defined as a two-dimensional echocardiogram that suggests a right ventricular cross-sectional area of less than 35%.
