Macrophage migration inhibitory factor was originally found to inhibit the random migration of macrophages in vitro and is now involved in a series of inflammatory disease processes as an important regulator. We have recently found that the absence of macrophage migration inhibitory factor attenuates some of the leukocyte-endothelial cell interactions induced by the inflammatory mediators, suggesting that the macrophage migration inhibitory factor plays a role in the inflammatory response
