Dexmedetomidine (DEX) has sedative, analgesic and anti-sympathetic effects and has less impact on the respiratory system. Its application in the field of anesthesia is receiving more and more attention. However, compared with other commonly used clinical anesthesia sedative and analgesic drugs, its mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamic characteristics are very different. Therefore, this article reviews the pharmacological effects of dexmedetomidine. 1 Mechanism of Action Dexmedetomidine (DEX) is a highly selective α2-adrenergic receptor (α2-AR) agonist that inhibits α2 adrenal
