Toxoplasmosis generally use drug treatment, but the effect is not satisfactory. At present, the development of safe and effective vaccines is one of the important strategies for the prevention and control of toxoplasmosis. Nucleic acid vaccine has increasingly become a research hotspot. The rhoptry proteins, secreted by Toxoplasma gondii during invasion of host cells, help Toxoplasma gondii to evade the host’s immune attack by interacting with the host. Studies have shown that it plays an important role in the invasion of Toxoplasma gondii host cells, the formation of nymphs and the proliferation of Toxoplasma gondii, and therefore it has become a potential vaccine candidate antigen molecule. This review summarizes the characteristics of rod-like proteins, their interactions with hosts and the research progress in candidate molecules of rod-like nucleic acid vaccines.
