The process of counting things is to take the natural numbers in the natural sequence from the first natural number, and in turn make them correspond to the counted things. We first point out an object, and say “a”, then point out one that is not pointed out. Object, and say “two” and so on. Each time an object that has not been pointed out before is pointed out, for which a number is associated with it, this number continues in the natural sequence next to the number already called, until the whole thing is finished. The last number called is the result of counting. As long as the names of natural numbers are different from each other, and the order is strictly regulated, we can use the final natural number to represent the number of counted things.
