At first glance, the neutron star is a huge atomic nucleus. The difference is that the neutron stars are maintained by gravity, while the atomic nuclei depend on nuclear forces. Within a neutron star, gravitational force is so strong at a distance of just a few kilometers that it can fix matter in a very definite structure. One of the main manifestations is that all the irregularities on the surface are eliminated. The highest peak on the neutron star is only a few centimeters high.
