As a creative pioneer of psychoanalytic novels, Henry James’s writing themes are not limited to depicting the psychology of characters. Some of his travel memorabilia are also distinctive, highlighting his deep understanding of the social status quo. By interpreting his later work, “The Travels of the United States,” this article focuses on the analysis of Henry James’ critique of the social democracy in the United States at that time and the reasons for the lack of cultural and ethical forms of the U.S. democracy.
