郑家屯，为辽源县（今双辽县）县治所在地，位于吉、奉两省交接地带，具有相当重要的交通和战略地位。根据早在１９０５年所签订的《中日会议东三省事宜条约》，日本虽然获得了在南满地区有守备铁路的驻兵权，然而郑家屯既不属南满范围，也不是铁路附近属地，原无驻军的理由。
