很高兴参加中国亚洲太平洋学会成立暨学术研讨会。首先,我对学会的成立表示衷心的祝贺。 亚洲太平洋学会的成立,可以说是顺应目前世界历史潮流,应运而生的。亚太地区特别是东亚地区是当今世界经济增长最为活跃的地区。在世界其它地区经济普遍衰退的情况下,这一地区经济一枝独秀。在过去十余年间,世界经济平均增长不足3％,而中国、亚洲“四小龙”以及东盟国家的GNP增长率保持在7％左右。也有人预言21世纪将是亚洲太平洋世纪、亚太地区将成为世界经济的中心。不管这些说法是否正确,亚太地区经济的崛起,亚太经济在世界经济中的地位和作用已越来越重要,是一个有目共睹的事实。
I am very happy to attend the founding of China Asia Pacific Institute and Symposium. First of all, I’d like to extend my heart-felt congratulation on the founding of the Institute. The founding of the Asian Pacific Institute can be said to have complied with the present world historical trend and came into being. The Asia-Pacific region, especially in East Asia, is the most economically-active region in the world today. The economy of this region is thriving in the face of a general economic recession in the rest of the world. In the past ten years or more, the world economy has grown by less than 3% on average, while China, the “Four Little Dragons” in Asia and the ASEAN countries have maintained their GNP growth rate at around 7%. Others have predicted that the 21st century will be the Asia-Pacific century and the Asia-Pacific region will become the center of the world economy. Regardless of whether these statements are correct or not, the rise of the Asia-Pacific region and the growing importance of the Asia-Pacific economy in the world economy have become an obvious fact for all.
