1979年出土于陕西扶风豹子沟的南宫乎钟为甬钟,它的铸造年代根据花纹的特点可定为西周晚期偏晚。此钟铭文和目前常见的西周钟铭有一点不同,即它有两篇相互之间不连贯的铭文。其一位于钟体的正面钲部和左鼓,即西周钟铭常见的位置。这篇铭文的内容牵涉到作器者南宫乎的家庭历史。我在他处曾探讨过这个课题,这里从略。本文专门论述南宫乎钟的第二篇铭文。这篇铭文位于甬上,这里一般很少见铭文。其文云:
In 1979 unearthed in Shaanxi Fufeng Leopard ditch Nangong Bell as a bell, its casting time according to the characteristics of the pattern can be set late late Western Zhou Dynasty. This Zhongming Wen is a bit different from the most common Western Zhou Zhongming, in that it has two incoherent inscriptions. One is located in front of the bell chimes and left drum, that is, the common position of Western Zhou Zhong Ming. The contents of this inscription concern the history of the family in Nangong, the maker. I have discussed this issue elsewhere, here omitted.
