British historian Philippe Fernández-Amesto has studied Spanish history as a starting point, to a broader world history, from specialized historians to general history experts. Most of his works are titled with only one word, but contain extremely rich connotations, have their own unique historical concepts, and reflect the perspective of global history and ecological-environmental history. He has truly got rid of the influence of Western centralism and given almost equal attention to all civilizations in all countries. His history is not only concerned with the relations and contacts among people, but also with the interaction between mankind and nature. He is one of the most versatile historians of our time: a global and even cosmopolitan perspective has given his work a new look, and his flexible writing style has fascinated his historical writings. He is also one of the few historians who successfully walked out of the ivory tower and into society.
