GarrettCom’s S-Ring system runs from a well-defined port pair, with ring-attached Ethernet devices attached. The system is based on STP but specifically for ring topologies. Each of the two rings of a ring must be connected to the two ports of the Magnum 6K switch running the S-Ring software. Ring Ports at both ends of a normal spanning tree fabric ring create an illegitimate redundant path so that a standard STP blocks one incoming packet from both ports to create a normal Ethernet traffic flow.
