Abstract: Globalization has become a kind of trend and many people believe that globalization benefits us a lot. This article aims at validating the positive effect of globalization on poverty and inequality.
Key Words: globalization, trend, poverty and inequality
With the development of economy and technology, many of us come to realize that the contact between countries has become much more frequent than before.
Nowadays, almost everyone knows the foreign brands, such as KFC, and Coco Chanel. When we purse development, we can’t avoid keeping contact with other countries. So globalization has become a kind of trend which can’t be stopped by any countries. As for its advantages and disadvantages, individuals’ view on this issue varies dramatically. Someone believes that globalization is a good thing since it brings a lot of convenience to their daily life. Whereas others argue that globalization increases poverty and inequality. They argue that the developed countries are the only countries which benefit from the process of globalizing, and the developing countries suffered a series of environmental pollution problems in the course of globalization. Therefore, they conclude that globalization increases poverty and inequality.
As for my own point of view, globalization is a means of creating wealth and benefits for nations and individuals all over the world instead of increasing poverty and inequality. It is obvious that globalization makes a lot of contribution to eliminating the poverty. Take China as an example. Since China successfully sought the membership of WTO, the rapid trade expansion and economic growth sharply cut the number of the desperate poor. According to a survey of World Bank, the number of poverty in the poor region of China, whose income is less than one dollar a day, has dropped from 27 percent to 15 percent. However, there is still someone who questions the values of globalization. Because they regard the globalization as an evil and think that it is the globalization that enlarges the gap between the poor and the rich. Here, we should point out that many factors together cause this problem, not just globalization alone.
Although, some problems come into being during the process of globalizing, we can’t deny the fact that globalization does so many good to not only nations, but also individuals. What we should do it to seize the opportunity and take advantages it brings to us.
