This paper presents a new planning tool to deal with the notion of “territory” - a complex and ever-changing concept of urban areas. This method consists of seeds, structure and tool box. “Seed ” refers to a distinctive feature of a collection of neighboring effects that forms a special human environment that is firmly bound to the physical “structure ” of the established texture. Based on both, we have been able to develop a “toolbox” that contains both conceptual and technical tools. This article uses Gothenburg urban design as an example to discuss and illustrate this approach. The method shows the ability to deal with contemporary cities and their innovation and sustainability.
