Several federal agencies in the United States have invested in the first and second phases of the “Digital Library Pilot Project” since 1994. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of this area, the digital library research covers a wide range of topics, both technical and social. Many digital library projects have emerged today, some of which are already operational, but most are still under construction. Some projects are just experimental platforms for new technologies.
