To ensure global food security, 10,000 new crop seeds from around the world are shipped to the Arctic Circle “Doomsday Seed Bank.” The Svalbard Global Seed Bank, located on an island off the North Coast of Norway, now stocks 825,000 seed samples and records 13,000 years of agricultural history. The library provides seed storage protection to the seed banking network throughout the world but is also at risk from war, emergencies and natural disasters. As a body managing the seed bank, the Global Crop Diversity Trust has warned that in the face of climate change and the protection of the global diversity of crops are crucial to ensuring food security,
