Foreword Productive forest in Pakistan accounts for only 1.3% of the total land area. Therefore, there is a big gap between the supply and demand of timber and fuelwood is extremely scarce. Natural gas, fuel oil and coal can only solve 13% of the required energy, livestock dung and crop straws are also used as fuels to solve 87% of the energy needs. About 90% of rural population and 50% of urban population rely on these non-commercial fuels. The total consumption of firewood for home cooking and heating is 16 million cubic meters, while the national forest can only provide 250,000 cubic meters. In the past, the wasteland of fuelwood sources gradually turned into bare bare land, and afforestation in these areas was the only hope of establishing a reserve forest. One of these technologies is experimenting with afforestation in arid regions around the world
