湖北恩施南方马铃薯研究中心自20世纪60年代以来一直注重专用加工型马铃薯新品种的选育,特别是70年代和80年代以来,与中国农业科学院和国际马铃薯中心(CIP)密切合作,征集了大量有益基因资源,从而使专用加工型马铃薯新品种选育工作上了一个新的台阶,现已选育出鄂马铃薯1号、鄂马铃薯3号及南中552等适于薯条或薯片加工的马铃薯品种。这些品种由于淀粉含量较低一直不能满足日益兴起的马铃薯淀粉加工业的需要,而新育成的高淀粉品种鄂马铃薯5号正好填补了这一空白。
Since its founding in the 1960s, the Enshi Southern Potato Research Center in Enshi has been focusing on the selection and breeding of new potato varieties for special processing. Because of their low starch content, these varieties have not been able to meet the increasing needs of the potato starch processing industry. However, the newly developed high-starch variety E-potato 5 filled this gap.
