铝模型、芯盒等铸造工模具与木材比较,具有变形少、强度高、表面光洁度高、尺寸精确等优点。但对于几何形状复杂、不能机械加工的模型或芯盒,则钳工加工较为困难,精确度不能保证,而且工作多集中在钳工一个工种上,故制造周期长;特别是对于设备差、种类不齐(如工具铣床,靠模铣床等)的中小型工厂给铝质工模具的广泛应用带来一定的困难。
