With the further research on the principle of acupuncture anesthesia, the role of norepinephrine (NE) in acupuncture analgesia in the central nervous system is drawing more and more attention. One of the key questions is whether acupuncture accelerates the release of NE from the brain or suppresses its utilization. The injection of ~ (14) C-labeled NE into the lateral ventricle of rats can be taken up by brain tissue, especially NE-containing nerve endings. The distribution of NE in the brain can be measured by liquid scintillation counting or autoradiography. Electroacupuncture if accelerating the use of NE, electroacupuncture animal brain residual amount of ~ (14) C-NE should be less than the control animals. This article reports the preliminary results of this study.
