During the three hundred years or so of the Tang Dynasty’s dominance, especially in the middle and late Tang Dynasty, the economy in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River developed to a greater degree and its development rate far exceeded that of the Central Plains. The sign of economic development can be reflected in the development of agricultural economy, the technological advancement of handicrafts, the commercial traffic and the prosperity of cities. This article attempts to explore the status of economic development in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River in the late Tang Dynasty from the aspects of the silk printing and dyeing process and the progress of smelting and engraving of gold and silver ware. The lower reaches of the Yangtze River refers to the states such as Yangzhou, Chuzhou, Chuzhou and Jiangnan Road in the Tang Dynasty, including Runzhou, Changzhou, Shengzhou, Suzhou, Xuanzhou, Huzhou, Hangzhou and Yuezhou. Especially the states around the Taihu Lake and Xuanzhou in southern Anhui and the Yuezhou in Zhejiang Province.
